Prior to her first film, the actress was enrolled in a drama class at UCLA when a casting director saw her perform in Ah, Wilderness!, where a screening test was arranged for her, and, without a doubt, she nailed it. Her degree of performance secured her a spot in the first film she starred in, Song of Russia, which debuted back in 1944.

She often took the role of a lead actress in B-movies or played a supporting part in A-movies. The star was greatly noticed when she starred in Mystery in Mexico which eventually became her grandest movie.
